Capital Area Pickleball Association |
Player Development Committee
The mission of the Player Development Committee is to increase the number of people playing pickleball and improve the quality of play in the CAPA service area. The target audience is from the Novice level (1.0 to 2.0) up to the Intermediate level (3.5) players. We aim to improve the fundamentals and skills of these players in large group sessions and we do not intend to conflict with paid trainers who are providing advanced level clinics in smaller or individual sessions.
The committee has developed skill level specific lesson plans focusing on the basic fundamentals including rules, grip, stance, forehand, backhand, volley, serve/return, drop shots, dinking and basic strategy. CAPA has also developed a trainer stipend program targeting both existing and new trainers. This program has awarded over $1,000 in grants for those who have been successful in maintaining/attaining their certifications. In exchange for the stipend, each trainer is required to provide four free clinics to CAPA members.
